The Dusty Peloton Screen

My Peloton unboxing fell on a hot summer day in June 2023. Setup was easy breezy and I was all set with my trial subscription. I'm talking access to hundreds of instructor led training videos. I started with the scenic routes, trekking through London, Europe | Savannah, GA | Puerto Rico | Scotland... the music was in theme, the lighting and temperature in the room encouraged me to keep moving each time I jumped on this bike. I'm sweating bullets and feeling a great sense of accomplishment at the end of the journey. Legs were sore, booty was sorer (the seat is not comfy at all).

So that was week one. Week two felt different and at the time, I didn't really now why. I was high-fiving other riders who reached new milestones and thought "I'll get there too!" I let 3 workout days lapse without taking another ride. I'd walk past my workout studio knowing that big, beautiful, high rez monitor was getting dusty and thought "I'll get back on next week."

This went on for a month. I barely thought about the bike for days; until the subscription fee hit my account. I saw the charge and thought "I should probably start using this thing again, I need a return on investment." I'm 3 weeks into July 2023 and can still count on one hand the number of times I used this bike. I hated that my excitement vanished in less than a month.

"What happened?" I thought...

I found all of the excuses hiding in the corners of my subconscious. "It's 119 degrees outside" (not an exaggeration), "The seat is uncomfortable!", "I'll have to restyle my hair before work". So I decided to find a solution that works for me.

The lonely Peloton
Real solutions that are working for me...

Workout sessions bore me. In the middle of reps, I always found myself wondering "Why am I intentionally making myself uncomfortable?" Well, my doctor gave me a few reasons. "Kelli, your...

  1. Cholesterol levels are higher than normal range
  2. Vitamin D levels are too low
  3. Stress is out of control

...not to worry, nothing a little diet and exercise can't fix."

Thankfully, I stumbled upon a solution that works for me. It's called accountability! Having someone who'd be expecting an explanation if they don't get my health app workout alerts was encouraging enough for me to stick to it; as if my latest results from my physical wasn't enough. So stay tuned for my fitness tracker alerts.
